ABOUT ME

Cathy Grindrod is an award-winning Derbyshire writer, formerly Derbyshire Poet Laureate, whose writing has been widely published and broadcast.
I am originally from Lancashire, and have been writing for as long as I can remember, especially poetry. I’m happiest when undertaking projects where I can combine my own writing with supporting other writers. Two of the roles I have loved the most were my tenure as Derbyshire Poet Laureate from 2005-2007, and as librettist for ‘More Glass Than Wall‘, an oratorio to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the death of Bess of Hardwick in collaboration with composer James Redwood. It was performed by VIVA (East Midlands Orchestra) and 180 school children at Hardwick Hall, Derby Assembly Rooms and Buxton Festival, after months of intensive work in schools. In 2009, it was nominated for a BBC Radio 3 British Composer of the Year Award.
I have five published poetry collections. See publications.
To sustain my writing life, I am involved in a variety of other literature projects.
Have a look round, and if you’d like to find out more, feel free to get in touch.
